1960s London: Demi Moore is Laura Quinn, a bright and driven executive at the London Diamond Corporation who finds herself discouraged as male colleagues are repeatedly promoted ahead of her despite her greater experience. Michael Caine is Hobbs, the equally overlooked nighttime janitor with an intimate knowledge of the security -- and a score to settle with the Corporation. Sensing Laura's frustration, he convinces her to help pull off an ingenius heist.
Laura Quinn (Demi Moore) is a hard-working, ambitious employee of the London Diamond Corporation and Mr. Hobbs (Michael Caine) is the night janitor who, with access to every discarded piece of paper, knows everything that happens at the company. While she is constantly passed over for promotions she has earned, he passes through the building like a ghost, ignored as he goes about his work. He knows her frustration and tells her that he has a plan to steal a few diamonds - enough to set both of their minds at ease and yet not be missed from the vault - but he needs her help.
When I say that I liked this movie I may be overly kind for the fact that it combined two of my favorite things - Michael Caine and a heist plot - considering that the ending did not do the rest of the movie justice. It was nice to see Caine in less of the "sweet older man" roles that he has played for the last few years. And Demi did a pretty good job with what she was given. The movie had decent suspense and a good whodunnit investigation. It was a fine movie; more of a rent than an own.
