New England Patriots

New England Patriots

It has been called into question why I leave the New England Patriots out of my week end comments. I want to set the record straight that the only reason they are excluded is because they are boring.

I wrote that they beat the record for wins, I wrote that they were beaten by the Pittsburgh Giant-killers. I feel as though I mentioned that they have a potent passing offense that holds threat of the "big play" more than any other offense in the league.

I leave them out the rest of the time because they are not flashy. They don't do any fun end-zone dances. Their games do not get exciting in the last few minutes. They are not a part of games with 13 touchdowns scored. They are quiet. They go out and win. I do give them that, but they do it with no style. I refuse to say they look good doin' it.

This may seem like an endorsement for the team in disguise, but understand it is not. Many people look at the characteristics listed above in a positive fashion. Many say that they are signs of winners, of championship ball clubs. So what.

I am a Detroit Lions fan through and through. I need flashy. My team will not make the playoffs this season. Please put teams together who will be fun to watch. The New England Patriots...are...BORING.

the pats are eerily similar to the pistons, my friend.

Do NOT ever...ever, ever, ever make that comparison again. How can you make that comment? Let me see everyone in the stands wear Corey Dillon wigs. I want to see Tom Brady guarantee a win. I want to see the Patriots win a game as an underdog. The Patriots are not like the Pistons.

I think to a moderate football fan, the Pats can be very boring. They're great at winning, but not great at making the highlight type play.

To a passionate football fan, I think you have to appreciate the number of ways the Pats win (like Troy Brown at corner).

So now because I am bored by this team I am less of a football fan. I respect this team, I just think they're boring to watch. I think they're boring to read about. I didn't realize that meant a flaw in my moral character.

I wasn't trying to insinuate that you're less of a football fan. Actually, I never said that "passionate" football fans actually find the Patriots exciting.

I was saying you've got to appreciate the ways that they win, often using varying gameplans, which CAN be interesting. Personally, I think the Patriots could use a little flavor as well. Speaking as a Lions fan I'd take a bland winner over a perennial loser anytime.

I can see the Pistons/Pats comparison, but the Pistons have a bit more personality on the court. Thankfully not as much as Artest, though.

Since I was the one who spawned this "comment", I feel the need to stand up for my team. I would just like to point out a few points about my beloved pats, corey's rushing, adam's touchdown pass, his kick in the snow during th playoffs, brady's passes, the finesse with which they play, and the consistent wins for the last THREE years. Not to mention many other wonderfully exciting things about the fabulous patriots. I suppose "flashy" is necessary when teams can't deliver wins for their fans. The patriots rarely disappoint. I guess to some that might be "boring."

Hey Dr. Cheap Shot,
This isn't about the Lions, leave them out of it.

a) Your kicker threw A touchdown. Get over it. If he starts lining up under center I might watch a game or two.

b) His FG was how many years ago? How does that relate to how boring they are to watch this season?

I cannot deny watching Troy Brown on defense is fun. It is at least something different. The team does adapt well and change their game plan from week to week. I do not challenge the authority and ability of the players and/or coaching staff.
